Chicken update! The girls seem to be settling in very well and we had an egg in the nest box when I walked out to check them around midday - the first of many, with any luck. The girls are also settling into picking on poor Owen, which is why he’s lurking about in the background on his own. I gave them some corn and one of the marans chased him away before he could eat any, poor lad.
(I walked up to the field with my camera, only to discover I left it switched on and the battery had run down, so I took these on my phone. The camera battery is now charged and ready for tomorrow, if it isn’t raining.)
Seven hens and a rooster! The girls are Cuckoo Marans (speckly), Coronation Sussex (white with a grey neck and tail) and Light Sussex (white with a black neck and tail). The boy, Owen, is a Welsummer (reddish brown, AKA The Cornflakes Rooster).
They’re shut in the henhouse for now, until they settle down, and tomorrow I’ll take some photos of them in their new enclosure.
